1978 50 Miler

This was a joint 50 mile hike with the girl scouts in the George Washington National Forest. The actual hike was probably closer to 60 miles. The boys camped out at Bother Knob the first night, and later spent the night in the High Knob Fire Tower. Along the way, they spotted three cubs and their mama bear, along with dozens of deer around the tower. During this era, the scouts normally hiked at least one 50+ miler a year.
